Open House Kicks off NCW
at University College of the Cariboo
NCW was marked at University College of the Cariboo (UCC) with two events. Our first UCC Open House and Career Day was held on Saturday, October 19, followed by a NCW display at Aberdeen Mall on Saturday, October 26.

Open House and Career Day was marked with Hydrogen Rockets (organized by Barb Ruhl and Trent Hammer and run by Jo Johnson, Derek Bleackley, Michelle Marginet and Emily Forsyth) and a display of information about careers in chemistry. Ind addition, a capacity audience participated in our "The Wonder of Chemistry" show, organized by Dr. Jim Davies, Norm Reed and Bruno Cinel, along with assistance from Chemistry and Biochemistry (CBC) students (Stuart Chambers, Sebastien Grondines, Harm Gill, James Denis and Adam Mabbott deserve special mention).
The student CBC club also celebrated NCW with an interactive display at Aberdeen Mall on October 26. Many students organized and presented hands-on displays of magic mud, silly putty and acid-base properties of indicators and household chemicals. Marcus Trayer, Derek Bleackley, Julie Topolnisky, Emily Forsyth, Jason McHarg, Karen Burkell and other students presented an excellent display. They were helped out by Chemistry faculty Bruno Cinel, Norm Reed and Kingsley Donkor.
