Middlefield Collegiate Institute NCW Report
National
Chemistry Week was celebrated at Middlefield C.I. from Friday October 17 to
Friday, October 25. The activities
took the usual form of daily chemistry related puzzles and questions as well as
a contest puzzle page of 12 questions of varying levels of difficulty. Students earn points for both the daily ones as well as the
contest sheet. Prizes are awarded
from the materials available from you. We
always have a high degree of student interest in these puzzles.
More
significant this year than in previous years, was our Crystal Growing Contest.
Flushed with our success from last year, we had over thirty students
ranging from grade 9 to OAC, who together grew fifteen crystals during the six
week period leading up to National Chemistry Week.
We had enormous difficulty selecting only two to submit.
It was thrilling to have so many students checking their crystals on a
daily basis and caring for their creations.
Without the subsidy from Anachemia this would be beyond our budget to
consider.
