UCC Opens its Doors

Open House and Career Day at University College of the Cariboo (UCC) featured an instrument display and tour (organized by Drs. Kingsley Donkor and Maria Tirado, with help from Marcus Trayer, Jamie Postnikoff, Jason McHarg and Courtney Hall), a display of information about careers in chemistry and a hands-on chemistry room (organized by Dr. Doug Bickley, MCIC, with help from Shannon Johnston, Jo Johnson, Kristie McBurnie, Nola Wilde and Jamie Postnikoff). In addition, a capacity audience enjoyed our "The Wonder of Chemistry" show (organized by Drs. Norm Reed, and Bruno Cinel, ACIC, along with assistance from Chemistry Biochemistry Club (CSC) students. Stuart Chambers, Tanya Kerr, Nola Wilde, Jo Johnson, Shannon Johnston, Carlene Hajash, Greg Bernardo and Mandy Fonos deserve special mention.

The CBC also celebrated National Chemistry Week with an interactive display at Aberdeen Mall on October 25.  Many of the above students organized and presented hands-on displays of magic mud, silly putty, and acid-base properties of indicators and household chemicals.  Stuart Chambers, Veron Novosad, Lisa Carr, Tanya Kerr, Manddy Fonos, Henry Wong and other students presented an excellent display.  They were helped out by chemistry faculty Bruno Cinel, Sai Yiu, Nelaine Mora-Diez and Kingsley Donkor, MCIC.
